The Right Choice
I think I’ve gotten far enough away…. The gorilla paused and sniffed the night air. Mixed with the scent of motor oil and garbage the jungle called, warning of fire and….jaguars? He shook his head and grunted with annoyance. This’ll have to do.As he lowered Jinx to the ground the pinkette gasped in pain.“Jinx? Are you ok?” He asked, returning to his normal shape. She merely gasped, fingers clumsily fumbling with the needle now almost completely buried in her arm. Blood continued to dribble out of the entry wound and the syringe obviously needed to be removed. Come on Beast Boy you can do this, you work with…….Aw man I have no idea how to do this!
He knelt and bent over the girl. “Jinx? It’s BB, come on snap out of this. Please? I’m here.” Her eyes continue to stare into space, staring quite through him at something that was clearly terrifying her.
“You’ll lose her just like you lost me.” Again a voice came from the mists, familiar and mocking.
“Shut up!” he snarled, eliciting a gasp from the injured girl.
“What? No, not you.” What’s going on…. The titan reached across and placed the girl’s punctured arm in his lap. Please don’t screw up, he thought as he grasped the needle’s base.
They finally stopped moving. Whatever her captor had planned for her, it couldn’t be far off. As she was put down, a sharp pain went down her left side and Jinx gasped. A voice was speaking to her, but she couldn’t make out the words. Was he threatening her? Whatever he was saying, she had to get out, retreat while she was still free to do so. The sorceress tried to get up, but another stab of pain shot through her and she gasped. Robin came over and looked down at her.
“See? Look what you got yourself into after you left us. You can’t survive without a team, you’re useless on your own. It’s all about teamwork.” The four Titans behind him smiled mockingly at her, nodding at their leader’s words. “Well, it’s not as if you ever had a choice anyway. You should just kill yourself and shut up.” He laughed again and kicked her in the side, earning another pained gasp from her.
Jinx’s arm felt disconnected from the rest of her body as her captor moved it, and prodded at the part that hurt the most. She tried to clamp her mouth shut, but a ragged scream tore out of her throat anyway. Her arm burned as the syringe was removed and a warm liquid dripped down her arm.
Why did he remove it? Was he helping her, or was he just planning to bleed her to death?
“Aw crap.” Beast Boy held the bloody syringe in his hand. He’d gotten it out of Jinx’s arm but, with the way she’d screamed he may have done more harm then good. Adding to his issues, more blood now flowed from the wound, running down the pinkette’s are and tattered sleeve.
Placing her damaged arm back into lap he tore of a sleeve of his uniform and tied it over the injury. There was that tourniquet thing Robin showed me, do I use it for something like this? Man I have no idea. Panic began to flood his system, as if taut piano wire slowly began to snap. C’mon Beast Boy! You’re not losing anyone! Not ever again!
“Forget it.” A familiar voice spat, “You’ll lose her just like you lost me and everyone will know what you are, a worthless failure who can’t save anyone.”
“Leave me alone!” he yelled turning to face—-Terra? The blonde’s face contorted into a leer, chips of rock falling from her half covered face.
“What’s the matter “BB”? Afraid that you’re going to watch you replacement girl die in front of you? You can’t run away to hide like you did for me.” She stepped for ward and seized the Titan shirt, pulling him close. “I’m going to make you watch as every last bit of her lifeblood drains away.”
